4 days/3 nights Art Deco and the Vines Tour

Day 1 | Mon 22 Mar 2021 - Arrive in Napier | (D)

Upon arriving in Napier you will be transported to the award winning Masonic Hotel and the 1930’s. Opened in 1861 the Masonic Hotel has had a difficult past, being razed by fire twice by 1931. The 7.9 Napier Earthquake was the catalyst for the Masonic Hotel’s iconic Art Deco design, like Napier itself, this historic hotel has captured Art Deco Style of the 1930’s perfectly, and after a recent refurbishment is a destination unto itself.

You will meet your tour guide and the rest of your group this evening for a welcome dinner at the Hotel.

Day 2 | Tue 23 Mar 2021 - Art Deco, Mission Estate, Vintage Cars | (B,L,D)

After breakfast you will set off on a Guided Art Deco Trust Walking Tour. On this tour you will delve into the world’s largest concentration of 1930’s Art Deco, Spanish Mission, and Stripped Classical buildings. The city was rebuilt over a two year period after the 1931 Napier earthquake, capturing the beauty and nuance of the popular architectural styles of the early 1930’s. Your Art Deco Trust guide will show you many of the hidden treasures of this magnificent city. After the conclusion of your Art Deco Walking Tour you will head to Mission Estate Winery for a wine tasting and lunch. Established in 1851 by a group of French Missionaries. Today it boasts an enviable setting, with stunning views out over Hawke’s Bay in a beautiful historic building. Here we will enjoy a wine tasting and lunch, an opportunity to sit back, relax and soak in this beautiful region.

After lunch, you will be picked up in a classic Vintage car to visit Hooters Vintage Car Museum, where you get a personal tour of the vintage car collection. The walls of the showroom are covered with memories and trophies from all series of motorsport from Karting and F1 to classic and vintage racing and rallying participated in by the Hooters team! We then hop back into one of these restored beauties and take a drive through Onekawa and on to the beautiful fishing village of Ahuriri then you will take a slow drive back to the City centre and your hotel. Dinner will be at a local restaurant tonight.

Havelock North offers boutique shopping, a thriving café culture and although just kilometres from Hastings the town, locally known as ‘the village’ feels miles away.

After exploring the streets of Havelock North you will travel to the coastal town of Te Awanga and visit Clearview Winery for lunch. Established in 1987, owner-operated Clearview Estate's ‘Red Shed’ Restaurant and cellar door are long-established havens of Mediterranean inspired hospitality. You will partake in a wine tasting prior to your lunch at the restaurant. Following this we will be picked up by Gannet Safaris Overland for a tour of the gannet colony. You will be transported in their modern fleet of 4x4 vehicles through pristine coastline, working farms, native bush and to New Zealand’s largest privately owned nature reserve. An adventure in itself, you will safari in style and comfort over picturesque Cape Kidnappers Station traversing riverbeds, broad rolling pastures, steep gullies and the most breath taking views of Hawkes Bay and beyond.
