Day 2 | Queenstown - West Coast - Mount Cook | (B,D)

Wake up and enjoy breakfast at the hotel before being transferred to the airport to board your aircraft. Departing Queenstown you can view the unique alpine terrain of the Southern Alps and Mt Aspiring National Park – a World Heritage Area the views are phenomenal. Continuing up the west coast to Jackson Bay which marks the farthest extent of the West Coast's road network. At the start of Jackson Bay sheer bluffs plunge into the sea and mountain ranges from an impenetrable barrier to motorised traffic. Jackson Bay is a working fishing port - boats are tied up at the long wharf that stretches out into deep waters. We continue the flight up the West Coast and fly over the glaciers. Rarely does the opportunity to encounter such unique and jaw-dropping natural scenery arise. It’s hard to think of a better way to fully appreciate the vast scale and grandeur of the famous West Coast glaciers than by plane, a true experience of a lifetime. From here we continue onto Mount Cook, where we land and transfer to the iconic Hermitage hotel, located in the heart of Mount Cook Village you couldn’t dream of a more unique setting to spend the night. We will enjoy dinner at the hotel this evening.

Day 3 | Mount Cook - Central Otago - Queenstown | (B,Picnic Lunch,D)

After breakfast we depart Mount Cook and fly down Pukaki Valley, showcasing Lake Pukaki, the largest lake in the area. The water colour of the lake is a bright turquoise due to glacial flour, made from extremely fine rock particles that have come from the surrounding glaciers. The lake is fed at its northern end by the braided Tasman River, which has its source in the Hooker and Tasman Glaciers. When the sun hits the surface of the lake, it reflects off the particles transforming it to a brilliant blue. We continue our flight over the former gold and coal mining town of St Bathans, formerly named Dunstan Creek which lies deep in the heart of the Maniototo in the Otago region. We then follow part of the Otago Rail Trail with a special landing and picnic lunch before we take off again and return back to the spectacular alpine town of Queenstown. We check into our hotel for the evening before enjoying a 3 course dinner in-house.
